First, this is a standalone read with a HEA. Second, reading some of the reviews with the low stars I had to shake my head. They missed the whole point of the story. But, to each his own. I on the other hand LOVED THIS STORY. It is my favorite kind of romance. There are two people involved, they have issues to work through and they do to get to their HEA. There is no bad guy, no drugs, mafia, violence, etc. Just two people working through some issues that usually are very real in real life. These two, Jase and Emily, started out as friends in high school each wanting a little more than friendship. But due to very teenage behavior, they parted on very bad terms. Into adulthood, 10 years later, they are thrown together as their best friends are getting married. They are always paired together in the wedding party because of her height and his being the only one taller than her. They spit and fight the whole time. They have a lot to go through to find out why they are where they are.The thing with Jase's parents happened to a friend of mine. His mother was even worse than this one and without all the excuses. It broke their family apart and just about killed the dad. Then she waltzes back home one day and even tho my friend and his brother pleaded with the dad to not take her back, he did. His ending did not turn out like the story. He eventually lost all touch with his dad and the mother treats the dad like he was the one that did the unspeakable acts. My friend doesn't speak to either one of them. But, that is real life, Jase had a lot to deal with in the story.Emily had her own issues to deal with. She was so misjudged, etc. and at such a young age to have to deal with the things that were going on. It was a terrible thing to have happened to a young woman but she didn't let it define her. She is strong, independent and a lovely person. I could see why she "hated" Jase at the time. One reviewer thought the reason they were not together was rather silly, or something like that. I don't think it was something that so easily could have been dismissed. I could easily understand her feelings toward Jase and the things he said to her.All that being said, I LOVED this story. It was so good. Held my attention to the point I didn't want to put the book down. I will admit that at the first of the book I was a little confused trying to keep all the guys straight and just what was going on, but once I got into the story of Jase and Emily, I was spellbound. It was a great read and I highly recommend it.I was not paid for this review. I am not an author nor do I know one. I am not kin to this writer. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. "It was like all those little broken pieces inside her were falling back into place."Enemies to lovers, one of my favorites tropes. And written by Mira Lyn, it was bound to be good. Of course it is not only good, but awesome.Jase and Emily have known each other for a very long time and there's a lot of emotional baggage between them, ever since Jase lost her to his best friend back in the day. Even though they don't get along, they keep being paired up in parties and weddings, meaning they're forced to tolerate each other's presence.Yes, there's obvious attraction on both sides, but their dislike for each other seems to be even stronger. And then Jase comes to her rescue and curiosity takes the best of them - what if, just once, if it doesn't mean anything, maybe they can see what all the fuss is about? The chemistry between the two of them is off the charts, the sex scenes are hot (what else would you expect from Mira?) and the will they-won't they kind of made me wonder if there would be a HEA to this in the end.Take a chance on this book. It shows you putting the past behind you and following what makes you happy can totally change your life.
